We were inspired by an article we found in National Geographic titled “Shake it off”. It involves the rates of oscillation in animals as they shake themselves dry. It compares the different component into each factor of fur, type of skin and size. The concept of oscillation can be related to physics through the waves created by the person shaking.
Our plan is to create a large touch screen on the wall that is in the form of a smart phone. When the exhibit isn’t in use, the saved videos will play as a montage of past OSC visitors “shaking”. When a person comes in contact with the wall, they begin shaking for a period of time. Instructions will come up on the wall to indicate what will happen. Once the person is done shaking, they will receive data about their shaking frequency compared to different animals around the world. This information can be uploaded to their smart phone, where they will always have access to view them shaking and different facts. At the end, they person will have the option to let their video to be played at the exhibit when the smart phone is not in use.

Where are you in the project? - Yi
All researching
Assigned deadline and goals
Bouncing other new ideas of off each other, brainstorming
We’ve organized and designated specific days for specific tasks and things we need to get done
Made a wiki and a facebook page (where we have discussions and post links and ideas)
Assigned each person roles
Each person’s roles and responsibilities? -Isabella
Everyone: keep a log, remain in contact through texts, research roles to be determined
Natasha: video, put together written report
Yi: submit all our work electronically, video
Roshni: purchase presentation materials, google sketch up and poster board
Isabella: Keep track of dates and deadlines, google sketch up and poster board
What do we still need to do? –Monette and Natasha
Begin write-up (set to start next week)
Formally bring together our research and finalize the info we want to share
Keep Laura informed
Physical design (sketches, etc.)
Organize a meeting with some of the designers, come up with specific questions to ask them
What is the project about? –Rejy and Roshini
How we were inspired
Thought it was funny at first and decided to expand on it and brainstorm more ideas
The actually exhibit, what is it?
The app
How we think everyone will become engaged
To do: (at home)
Think about how this exhibit and promote innovation in visitors.
Look over the oral report outline, think of ideas/things to say and make cue cards if necessary
Monday, November 7th, 2011 We practiced presenting in front of Laura and made adjustments to our report accordingly to her suggestions.
Wednesday, November 9th, 2011
Present!
Feedback:
-maybe let visitors view the clip of them shaking and allow themselves to graph or calculate their own oscillation frequency
-maybe let visitors match up their oscilation frequency to an animal instead of just assigning them the animal
